چکیده

Gravitational waves (GWs) emitted by binary sources are interesting signals for testing gravity on cosmological scales since they allow measurements of the luminosity distance. When followed electromagnetic counterparts, in particular, enable a reconstruction GW-distance-redshift relation. In context several modified (MG) theories, even when requiring that speed propagation is equal to light, this GW distance differs from standard due presence friction propagation. The very same source friction, which running an effective Planck mass, also affects scalar sector generating gravitational slip, i.e. difference between potentials, observable can be inferred large-scale structure (LSS) probes. work, we use model within field theories dark energy exemplify precisely fact that, at linear perturbation level, parametrizing single function already enough generate simultaneous deviations and slip. By simulating multi-messenger events might detected Einstein Telescope future, compare constraining power two observables degree freedom. We then combine forecasts Euclid-like survey with simulations, coming conclusion using data better constrain parameters, those future tensor sectors competitive probe such General Relativity, LSS giving stronger (but more model-dependent) results than GWs.

Testing Gravity with Gravitational Wave Source Counts

We show that the gravitational wave source counts distribution can test how gravitational radiation propagates on cosmological scales. This test does not require obtaining redshifts for the sources. If the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR, ρ) from a gravitational wave source is proportional to the strain then it falls as R−1, thus we expect the source counts to follow dN/dρ ∝ ρ−4. However, if gravita...

Testing Theories of Gravity with a Spherical Gravitational Wave Detector

We consider the possibility of discriminating different theories of gravity using a recently proposed gravitational wave detector of spherical shape. We argue that the spin content of different theories can be extracted relating the measurements of the excited spheroidal vibrational eigenmodes to the Newman-Penrose parameters. The sphere toroidal modes cannot be excited by any metric GW and can...

Testing post-Newtonian theory with gravitational wave observations

The Laser Interferometric Space Antenna (LISA) will observe supermassive black hole binary mergers with amplitude signal-to-noise ratio of several thousands. We investigate the extent to which such observations afford high-precision tests of Einstein’s gravity. We show that LISA provides a unique opportunity to probe the non-linear structure of post-Newtonian theory both in the context of gener...
